Learning Objectives

• Differentiate between the "brain-hijack" model of addiction and the "moral failure" myth using neurobiological evidence.
• Assess the four "Cs" of addiction (Compulsion, Cravings, Consequences, and Control) to identify clinical presentations of the disorder.
• Explain the role of the family system in addiction, including the shift from "identified patient" to systemic change.
• Evaluate the clinical utility of harm reduction strategies versus traditional abstinence-only models in various patient populations.
