DBT Skills: 10 Answers to the Most Searched Questions

CE Hours 1.5

About this course

This self-paced course explores the fundamental principles and clinical applications of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) through the lens of the internet’s most searched questions. Led by expert psychologist Dr. Kiki Fehling, the session demystifies the "dialectical" approach—balancing acceptance and change—to treat complex conditions like BPD, PTSD, and Substance Use Disorders. Learners will gain a practical understanding of the four core DBT skill modules: Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness. By the end of the course, clinicians will be able to differentiate DBT from traditional talk therapies and understand the structure of a comprehensive DBT program.

Learning Objectives

  • Differentiate between the "change-based" focus of traditional CBT and the "balance of acceptance and change" within the DBT framework.
  • Describe the four core skill modules of DBT (Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness) and their clinical functions.
  • Explain the "dialectical" philosophy and how it applies to reducing polarized or "black-and-white" thinking in clients.
  • Identify the components of a comprehensive DBT program, including individual therapy, skills group, and phone coaching.
