Depression & Suicidality: 10 Answers to the Most Searched Questions

CE Hours 1.5

About this course

This self-paced course provides a comprehensive exploration of depression through the lens of the most frequently searched questions by the public and clinicians alike. Led by a licensed marriage and family therapist with lived experience, the session addresses critical distinctions between clinical depression and common misconceptions like laziness or simple sadness. Participants will gain insight into early warning signs, the dangers of high-functioning depression, and the integration of medical, therapeutic, and spiritual interventions. By the end of the course, learners will be better equipped to validate patient experiences, identify "silent" symptoms, and support those at risk for suicidal ideation.

Learning Objectives

  • Differentiate between clinical depression and common behavioral misconceptions, such as laziness or lack of motivation.
  • Identify at least three "early warning signs" or subtle shifts in behavior that indicate a depressive episode may be onsetting.
  • Explain the clinical and safety risks associated with "high-functioning" depression and suicidal ideation, specifically regarding the "crash" and barriers to seeking help.
  • Assess effective strategies for supporting a client or loved one who uses "fine" as a defensive mechanism to mask depressive symptoms.
