Emotion Regulation: 10 Answers to the Most Searched Questions

CE Hours 1.5

About this course

This course explores the clinical foundations of emotion regulation through the lens of the Collaborative Emotion Processing (CEP) method. Learners will examine how the nervous system influences stress responses and the critical distinctions between temporary coping mechanisms and long-term coping strategies. Structured around answering the most searched questions from the internet, the course provides practical tools for nervous system resets, grounding techniques, and the neurobiology of the vagus nerve. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how to support both adult and pediatric clients in moving from reactive states to intentional self-control.

Learning Objectives

  • Differentiate between dopamine-driven coping mechanisms and serotonin/oxytocin-driven coping strategies.
  • Identify the nine sensory systems, including proprioceptive, vestibular, interoceptive, and neuroceptive senses, and their role in regulation.
  • Explain the Collaborative Emotion Processing (CEP) method's five components: adult-child interaction, self-awareness, implicit bias, self-care, and scientific knowledge.
  • Apply grounding techniques and breathing exercises to facilitate a nervous system reset in clinical or public settings.
