Trauma and Pain: 3+ Connection Points That Change Treatment for Chronic Pain

CE Hours 1

About this course

Dr. Davis's session explores the deep psychobiological intersections between psychological trauma, toxic stress, and chronic pain pathologies. Additionally, the course breaks down how threatening life experiences physically reorganize the central nervous system. Participants will analyze the structural and biological differences between nociceptive, neuropathic, and nociplastic pain mechanisms to better recognize trauma-driven symptoms in clinical presentations. Ultimately, learners will acquire evidence-based strategies to seamlessly integrate behavioral health modalities, such as Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) and EMDR, into a comprehensive, mind-nervous system-body approach to treatment.

Learning Objectives

  • List the 3 mechanisms/types of pain patients experience.
  • Describe evidence-based treatment options for nociplastic pain.
  • Effectively translate clinical findings to educate patients on nociplastic pain and its treatment options.

Target Audience

This educational activity is intended for behavioral health professionals, including Psychologists, Social Workers, Counselors, and MFT's.
